After running a hugely successful Men’s Mixed Ability Team for 6 years, Worcester RFC are now launching a Women’s MA Team.

WHAT IS MIXED ABILITY?
Mixed Ability Rugby is, very simply, rugby for players of all abilities & disabilities. An inclusive form of rugby with a handful of tweaks to the rules such as uncontested scrums and restricted contact dependant on ability.

Mixed Ability has brought in over 100 new players to the club through the men’s programme with a handful of players representing the 1sts and even more at 2s and 3s level as well as a highly successful Mixed Ability team that plays regularly across the UK. At the recent IMART (International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament) in Ireland, Worcester came a creditable 6th & were the highest ranked side in England.

Team Manager Sarah Nichols said "We've had just 4 ladies train with the men's team for a while now and in June 2 of us were lucky enough to go to the Mixed Ability World Cup, where we were adopted by the ladies Spanish team. We came back buzzing and with the men's mixed ability coaches decided to launch our own team! Already so many have joined, some with Fibromyalgia, SEN Needs, Mental Health battles, Busy Mum's, some are new to the game as well as experienced players wanting to enjoy social rugby again.” She continued “Joining this rugby family has changed my life! Exercise really helps me physically & mentally and the love and support from the team both on and off the pitch is truly amazing. Come and have a go, I know it's nerve-racking starting something new, but we'll look after you, its so much fun!”

Worcester RFC Head Coach Jonny Arr enthused “Ever since their inception, WRFC Mixed Ability have led the way for inclusive sport in Worcestershire, ensuring rugby can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their skill level or physical/mental ability. This is just the next step in that evolution and the growth in the women’s game in recent times gives us confidence that this is will be a successful addition to our stable of teams designed to include all members of the local community.”

Women of all ages (16+), abilities and S.E.N needs are welcomed & encouraged Tuesday evenings 6-730pm & Thu 6-7pm. See @WorcesterRFCMA on social media for more info.
