Wednesday 22nd June saw Worcester RFC’s annual AGM take place & the election of 3 NEW Vice Presidents, all women with a specific remit to promote women in rugby. After a season that saw the senior women’s side storm to promotion to Championship North 1 & numerous Junior Girl players selected for county & country, the club has pushed on in it’s drive to welcome even more women into the game & give a fairer representation within senior roles at the club.

Club Chairman Steve Lloyd said “Rebecca, Marty & Nicky all have long associations with the club & were instrumental in establishing women’s rugby at the club in the 90s. They will all make a significant contribution furthering our offering for women in the city & the county.”

Between the three, they have represented club, county & Country & the decision by members underlines the club’s determination to see girls & women’s rugby prosper.

Colts Manager Marie Meredith;We have seen girls & women’s rugby grow rapidly at Worcester & we are enjoying success at every level. The new initiative will enable us to promote rugby & club opportunities for women as well as strengthen our links with the local community.”

New Vice President & Managing Partner of Hallmark Whatley Hulme Rebecca Widdowson said “I am delighted to now be one of the first 3 women to be voted to be Vice President of the club. A proud moment for me &the club as it looks forward to a diverse & inclusive future. I look forward to working with the membership & committee & promoting women’s rugby at Worcester RFC in the widest possible arena

With excellent ties to the University, the Club’s U18 Girls team & also strong links with the Premiership team at the Warriors, the future of women’s rugby is looking great & provides us with a pathway for our talented athletes to play the best level of Women’s rugby they can.

*Worcester RFC are also launching a Mixed Ability Women’s Team to run alongside their very successful men’s team who placed 6th in the recent World Championships & No1 in England.
