Worcester Rugby Football Club Girls U18’s V Old Albanians Quarter Finals

Yesterday afternoon saw 22 of our U18’s girls compete in the National Cup Quarter finals against 21 Old Albanians girls at home. Unusually, after the last few weeks, the weather was being kind and we kicked off under the sunshine.

It was a fast paced game from the start and Els Watkins was soon to put some points on the board for Worcester with the first try of the game followed not long afterwards with Old Albanians scoring a try. It was proper end to end rugby with both teams making some ferocious tackles and the rucking and counter rucking being immense. Sarah Parry scored the next try, quickly followed by two more tries and a conversion by Old Albanians. At half time the opposition were in the lead 10-17.

After a half time team talk by co captains Ellie Lane and Heidi Pullan, Worcester came out firing on all cylinders. They continued to play fantastically as a team. Their discipline was excellent and scrummaging and tackling was working well. Three more tries followed for Worcester with Sarah Parry scoring one and Natalee Evans scoring a further two.
Old Albanians were still giving it their all though and caused some tense moments for Worcesters coaches and spectators as they continued to put Worcester under pressure and edge towards their try line.

However, with an audible sigh of relief from the Worcester side lines, the whistle blew for full time and Worcester Girls U18’s were victorious. A final hard fought result of 25-17.
They now move forward to the Semi Finals on 2nd April.

It was a huge team effort from the players, their coaches, team managers and first aiders. So a massive well done and a huge thanks goes to all of them.
