After a Covid devastating season, we certainly went out with a bang - what a fantastic weekend of rugby.
Friday night saw a doubleheader under lights to get the weekend underway. Officially, our 3rds hosted Bournville RFC and our Under 18 Girls hosted Old Hales.
Worcester v Bournville
The 3rds team was a brilliant mix of players from all of our senior’s men’s teams, 1st, 2nd, 3rds, Saxons and Mixed Ability. Open to anyone who wanted one final blast of rugby for the 2020/20 season. Worcester started strong taking an early lead. Bournville came back into the game but not before Worcester closed out the win in this year’s final senior men’s match. It was a brilliant close game with the home side edging it 38-31. Eddie Pope was Man of the Match. Ian Waring unanimously scooped the less prestigious DoD award for his contribution as team manager throughout the season.
Worcester U18 Girls v Old Hales

WRFC girls reach for the sky
Starting later and finishing, fittingly on Pitch 1, our Girls hosted Old Hales for the second game on an action-packed evening. In what was another close match and the final Mini/Junior section Game for some of our girls, Old Hales proved more robust in the last half of the fixture and came out winners on the pitch. The result mattered less than the social occasion with spectators allowed for the first time. The girls enjoyed the evening with their friends and family – some things are more important than winning. Good luck to all of our departing senior 18’s, Amy, Grace, Lara, Lauren and Lola D, who all have an exciting future ahead of them.
A full match report is available. Other teams, please take note, the girls are leading the way, and we expect you to follow.
Warriors Supporters are Back
Saturday saw the club host our members who were lucky enough to get tickets for the first Warriors match where spectators are allowed. A little return to normality, with free parking for members and our visitors benefitting from a far superior and better value food and drink offering that is available for other Worcester rugby clubs.
Super Sunday
What an action-packed final day of the season. With mini junior teams playing at home and away. Our Colts playing the final match at home and our new Women’s team in action away. There was WRFC rugby action wherever you looked.
Mini Juniors
Sunday morning was busy for our 400-player strong MJ section. Matching our Friday night senior fixture, our U8 hosted Bournville at home. The boys Under 13’s hosted Evesham on pitch 2. Playing away from home on the final weekend, our Under 15’s visited Ledbury. Even though their opposition pulled out at the last minute, our Under 16’s still wanted a final game. It was a pleasure to watch our boys Under 16’s play their final Mini Junior match against each other on pitch 1. Another fitting send-off for one of our senior Mini Junior teams.
In addition to senior players leaving the MJ section, some of our younger players are also making significant transitions next season Jess and Hermione are leaving their U11 team to join the girls section’s U13 Girls team. Luckily for the girls section, they are taking coach Nicky Crawford with them.

The boys will miss you girls
We love our Bar and Kitchen Team
The final weekend of the season provided the perfect opportunity for Ben and Will to present Brian Ryan and Laura Hicks with a small gift on behalf of the MJ Section to thank them for all the hard work they do to make our Sunday mornings more enjoyable.

Thanks Brian and Laura from all the MJ Section
Colts
For the final game, this season the Colts hosted Hereford at home. After two very close wins this year, the Colts coaches were looking to finish the season in style. The Colts didn’t disappoint. In a very entertaining and action-packed game, the colts took the match to the wire once again, testing the coaches nerves to their limits. In what can only be described as one of the year’s closest games, the Colts came in, winning by a couple of points. Rounding off the season in a style that the coaches nervous systems cannot afford to become accustomed too.

Jake did request CAA clearence before scoring this try
It was an absolutely brilliant match and, sadly, the final Colts Game for eight of the boys who will be leaving the Colts this year, going to Uni or on to our senior teams. Nate Atkins, Ed Owen, Ethan Pett, Euan Richardson, Mike Walsh, James Whitelaw, Jake Wright, Will Llewellyn. Seven are pictured below, not in the order above.

Good luck with your futures, hope to see you all back soon
Women’s XV
The final game of the season for the whole Club was reserved for our new Women’s team. Who played, possibly their first game, away at Birmingham Moseley WRFC and came back in a very respectable second place.
Like all the teams who play at the weekend, the results didn’t actually count. What really mattered after almost 18 months of lockdown was playing rugby with your teammates. Adapted rules, touch it didn’t matter. What really mattered was getting back together and taking a step towards normality. Together we are a strong supportive Club.
What’s next?
Most of us will be glad to see the end of the 2020/21 season, but plenty is going on over the summer to keep you busy. We have lots of social events planned, check out our Events calendar. Don’t forget Summer of touch, every Friday from 2nd July, culminating in a grand final and party on 27th August.
