Worcester RFC

Last Sunday saw us get the fun bus to Winscombe for our last game of the season and for some of our girls, the last game they will play with us as they head off to university or start work and join a women’s rugby team.

Some bright spark suggested we all go in fancy dress, the more creative the better. (we wonder who that was Martin?)

So on a beautiful sunny morning we met in the club car park in our attire, (much to the amusement of some of the minis and juniors as they trained) and waited for our coach to arrive.

Paul, our driver pulled in with a smile on his face. He didn’t have to ask who he was picking up!

And we were off, heading south with the girls being unusually quiet. It was quite unnerving and we put it down to it being far too early on a Sunday morning for them.

We arrived in plenty of time for a lie on grass in the North Somerset sunshine before the warm up and training started. 

The peace and quiet didn’t last as the girls got into the swing of things. We had a full team with rolling subs. Literally rolling subs…….. if they came on or off they had to ‘roll’ over the whitewash, much to everyones amusement.

Their last game all together was intense from the kick off and unfortunately didn’t go our way but today wasn’t just about the rugby. It was about the team and the rugby family which included parents, coaches, first aiders and managers. Winscombe were hosting four visiting teams and it was about giving all the girls that are leaving a really great send off and memories of what club rugby is all about.

There was the usual food after the game but then the entertainment started and all the girls took part in various games inside the clubhouse from eating pickled eggs and dried biscuits to drinking some positively disgusting looking liquid (non alcoholic of course). The girls loved it and we can honestly say we haven’t laughed so much in a long time.

It was soon time to go home and we thought we might get a peaceful journey back but no! The singing started and we can only apologise to the driver whose ears are probably still ringing. All we can say is, it’s a good job the girls can play rugby better than they can sing.

We really must thank Tom and Steve for being such fantastic coaches. (As you can see from the photo below, they're such an inspiring pair!!!)

It really was a great day and a great experience for our leavers 2022. We must thank Winscombe for being such great hosts. We’re looking forward to playing them next season.

We were also so lucky to have a visit from our special coach Alekis whose skills and one liners have kept us all entertained this season. 

And DJ Disco Danny for sorting the music for the caterwauling, I'm mean singing on the way home!!!
