Worcester Duo set to play at The Principality!

Two Worcester RFC players have been named in the latest Mixed Ability Invitational squad to play the Swansea Gladiators at the home of Welsh rugby – The Principality Stadium on Friday April 29th. Mixed Ability Rugby was first set up 30 years ago by the Swansea Gladiators and this game will celebrate this special anniversary. Mixed Ability Rugby is a fully inclusive form of the game, providing a team environment for people to play whatever their skill level or physical / mental ability. Mixed Ability Rugby is contact and non-contact in the same game so those who cannot or don’t want to take physical contact, can still enjoy the brotherhood of rugby.

Worcester RFC set up their own mixed ability team in 2016 with the help of AJ Mills, Adam Law & Nick Lee. Long-term player/coach Tom Reeves & 2nd row Theo Prince have now been given the honour of being selected in the 3rd MARIS (Mixed Ability Rugby Invitational Side), selected from mixed ability teams across the world. Like their professional counterparts, those selected will become part of a lifelong club with a unique cap number. “I’m simply blown away. I’ve been a rugby fan all my life & mixed ability allowed me to play again after a long time out. To play at this iconic rugby venue & be part of this historic club is proper dream come true stuff!” Tom said. Theo added “It’s an absolute honour to be selected for the MARIS to play at the iconic Principality Stadium. It has been a dream of mine to play there since I was young.”

Club chairman Stephen Lloyd “The journey for Mixed Ability Rugby at Worcester is still very young but it has grabbed the imagination of many people & has seen great growth in playing members. It really is a joy to see people just being together & enjoying the sport and community spirit it brings. A big part of the success are the people who organise & coach. No reward, no adulation, just the knowledge that they are making a difference to so many, something we now know is vital in mental & physical health. As a club we could not be prouder of Tom & Theo and know they will represent us with pride. As a reward for all their efforts this is so well deserved and timely. Well done chaps, go well, be proud & most of all, enjoy it! Congratulations from all at Worcester RFC.”
