Worcester RFC

Worcester travelled to Walsall for an impromptu match to start off the 2024.

Looking immaculate in their new training tops, the slightly smaller than usual squad warmed up on the 4G pitch, blowing out the last of the holiday cobwebs.

After slipping behind in the first few minutes, Worcester responded swiftly with a flowing move which saw Chloe B score in the corner. Natalee E converted with a confident kick to put Worcester into the lead – a lead which was never to be threatened.

Worcester continued to build pressure and a penalty try was awarded following a lineout and resulting maul.

Worcester continued to dominate, and it wasn’t long before Nicki D picked up the ball deep in her own 22 and a sweeping run down the right wing resulted in a touchdown under the posts – a wonderful piece of individual flair.

Further tries followed through good teamwork and support play for Bailey J, Natalee E and Alice L (who celebrated with an excited dance) and when the half-time whistle blew Worcester had established a comfortable lead of 5-38.

After the break, Walsall responded quickly with a converted try, before Worcester once again took control. Abi E niggled away at scrum half, creating uncertainty for her opposite number, while Natalee E turned in a fine display of strategic kicking which kept Walsall pinned back and opened up a stream of opportunities for Worcester to take advantage of.

Well-worked tries fell to Elana F (2), Natalee E (2) and yet another weaving run from Nicki D which left the opposition grasping at thin air. Walsall responded deep into the second half with a penalty try, only to see Natalee E conclude the game with a try of her own making which she converted comfortably.

Final score: 19-76 

Congratulations to all involved. The coaches were delighted to see training ground drills coming to fruition and the girls beginning their 2024 campaign with smiles on their faces.
