Everyone shares the responsibility for safeguarding and creating safe environments in rugby union whether as a parent, coach, spectator or club official. 

All should operate within an accepted ethical framework and demonstrate exemplary behaviour to both safeguard children and protect all personnel from allegations of abuse or poor practice.

Children, which is anyone under the age of 18, must be cared for in the correct manner, as set out in the RFU Safeguarding Policy.

The safety of all children and young adults is essential at Worcester RFC. The club takes safeguarding very seriously. We are fully committed to ensuring ALL young people, whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity, have the right to protection from abuse and to enjoy the game of rugby in a fun environment, safe from any kind of abuse.

The role of the Safeguarding Officer is to provide leadership in safeguarding children within the club, maintaining a supportive and positive environment in which children can play rugby safely and ensuring that members understand the RFU Codes of Conduct and Core Values.

Worcester RFC safeguarding officer is Simon Cox. Simon worked for over 30 years in mental health services in Worcestershire across the NHS and County Council Services. Within the roles, he carried out, he undertook work across the spheres of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.  Within the Club, he has been a coach and team manager. He has three grandsons who all play in the Mini / Junior section.

Simon is responsible for ensuring all people who are working closely with children have valid RFU DBS check. Working with the North Mids and RFU safeguarding teams and other local agencies to ensure that all safeguarding issues and incidents are reported promptly.
