Worcester RFC are proud to announce a new five-year kit partnership with Worcester-based apparel brand Scimitar Sports.

After a thorough tender process, Scimitar were found to be the best value-for-money and best long-term partner for the community-based club, as it moves into its 150th season (2021-2022).

Scimitar have been long-term kit suppliers to the club and Richard Webb, Scimitar Head of Sales, said: “We’re a very flexible business who can cater to any club or business’s requirements, and having worked with Worcester for over a decade, we have a fantastic relationship and understand their needs and requirements. We know their new kit will be well received and we look forward to another long-standing partnership.”

Worcester RFC Club Chairman Steven Lloyd commented: “Scimitar have been supplying us for as long as the company has been in existence and we have an incredible relationship with them. Directors Jon Rew and Sam Carter have played for the club many times and are Worcester people. They offer so much more to us than just kit supply and it’s this relationship which played a key part in the new five-year deal. The quality of their offering and the fact that they control the supply line were very strong influencers, as well as their commitment to help us over and above the contract details.”

Scimitar provide custom-made sports kit for all different types of sports, not just in the UK, but internationally, and is the official kit supplier to mass participation events such as British Triathlon and The Great North Run, as well as providing fundraising apparel for leading national charities like Help For Heroes and Alzheimer’s Society. The wider business, which also hosts two retail brands in Scimitar Sportswear and Funky Sportswear, has also produced bespoke apparel for a host of major clients including household names like HSBC, McLaren, Worcester Bosch, Britain's Got Talent and Love Island.

As well as the work Scimitar does nationally, the company is very proud of its Worcester roots, working with Worcester Bosch, St Richard’s Hospice and a whole host of local sports clubs, while last Christmas they donated £2000 to the Worcester Food Bank.

Worcester RFC were particularly impressed at Scimitar’s #RecycleReduceRepurpose pledge that by 2025 they aim to produce all polyester-based sportswear from recycled fabric made from plastic bottles. A typical Scimitar technical t-shirt will be made from six to seven recycled plastic bottles. They will also help ensure any old kit won’t go to waste and in partnership with the Tag Rugby Trust, will take old, unwanted kit to Africa to distribute to community clubs who engage with thousands of local children using rugby as a vehicle for running educational and social outreach programmes.

This announcement follows a very busy lockdown for the club. Worcester RFC have brought in new tenants, The Worcestershire Black Knights American Football team, to share the superb facilities, while they have created and launched a commercial website for the clubhouse venue and announced some major events including a Sausage & Cider Festival, Ibiza Orchestra Live and The Big 90s Festival to take place this summer, while also planning a year of celebration for its 150th season.

Tickets to all the above events and a link to the new Scimitar club shop can be found at wrfcevents.co.uk.
