Alcester Colts 5 - 17 Worcester Colts

It was brilliant to visit a true community club at Alcester. Playing with a U17 side in the U18 Colts league, with a great team and community spirit. Both teams solemnly paying their respects by observing a two-minute silence before kick-off on Remembrance Sunday.

Worcester played downhill in the first half and kicked off to Alcester. Worcester pressured Alcester in their own 22. A short clearance kick was collected by Will Meredith just outside the 22. He went on an arcing run to score an unconverted try in the corner, Worcester taking an early 0-5 lead.

Two minutes later Francis Shiels turned over the ball on the Alcester on 22. The start of a brilliant phase of pop passes which ended with Tom Kinnersley going over in the far corner. Conversion missed.

Harvey Rowling was putting in some outstanding tackles at 7. Worcester didn't take any advantage of extra numbers after Alcester were shown a yellow, for reasons only the ref knew.

Alcester ended the first half strong, an initial Alcester breakaway was snuffed out by a great tap tackle from Will Meredith. But when Worcester failed to follow their own kick, Alcester ran the ball back to score in the corner.

Worcester went in leading 5-10 at halftime.

In the second half, Francis Shiels was trying to make new friends in the oppositions huddle before the line out, his career in espionage may already be over!

Noah Korff turnover an Alcester ball on the Worcester 22. Fraser Gore passed to Joel Rickman to make the breakthrough for Tom Kinnersley to score his second try. Converted by Fraser Gore, giving Worcester a 5-17 lead.

Noah Korff was the touchlines man of the match in what was ultimately a scrappy game from Worcester with far too many Holywood offloads and basketball passes.

We are looking forwards to more fixtures with Alcester in the near future. Next week sees the Colts back at home against Moseley.
