AGM Postponed - UPDATE

As you know, due to the worsening spread of Covid19 infections, the Government introduced new measures earlier this week aimed at supressing the virus and keeping infections down.  Although these new measures do not specifically deal with our position the general thrust of the measures is to further restrict social contact and keep people safe.

As a result, the Management Committee discussed on Tuesday evening whether we should go ahead or postpone the AGM. Some 25 members had already registered for the AGM and along with the Management Committee members we anticipated around 40 people being present in the clubhouse. After careful consideration we concluded that it would be irresponsible for the AGM to go ahead as planned. We had hoped the overall situation would continue to improve. This is clearly not the case.

We also considered whether it would be feasible to hold the meeting online. However, we are concerned about the practicalities of organising an online meeting at such short notice and the potential for excluding members who did not have access to reliable IT. Our experience of running the Management Committee meetings online has demonstrated that significant planning and support is needed.

We agreed that the AGM should be postponed for a further two months – until the 25th November 2020. We do not have confidence that we will see a significant improvement in the pandemic, but we will also use this time to prepare for an online AGM. The current Management Committee will continue to look after Club affairs until the new AGM date.

We will, as promised, publish the full WRFC and Bars accounts on Thursday 17th September 2020.  We will also invite members to raise any questions about the accounts or any other matters and we will provide & publish the answers.

We are disappointed that we are postponing the AGM but are sure that all members will agree this is the right decision given the circumstances.

I would like to thank all members for their patience & continued support.

Keep safe

Steve Lloyd
Chair
