Worcester RFC Walking Rugby Starts Tonight!!

Come on down and give it a go.

Following the growth in interest in rugby with the Rugby World Cup currently on in France, Worcester RFC have partnered with the Worcester Warriors Foundation to launch Walking Rugby for men and women of ALL abilities.

WHAT IS IT?
Walking Rugby is one of England Rugby’s non-contact formats of the game. There is no tackling involved, instead a touch on the armpit or below are used. Played on a half pitch, participants must be walking at all times and is played with unlimited touches..

WHO CAN PLAY?
Walking Rugby can be played by everyone; however, it is generally played by older players (55+). All skill levels can play together and sides can be of mixed genders.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
A welcoming, laid back, social environment is the core experience of all walking rugby sessions.

WHEN IS IT?
Starting Thursday October 19th at 6pm, behind pitch 2. Men and women of all abilities are welcome to come down and give it a try!

Chairman of Worcester RFC Stephen Lloyd enthused “We are a community club and look to support ANYONE to play rugby. With 8 senior sides including 2 mixed ability sides, Walking Rugby will be our 9th and enable players of ALL ages from 18 months up to play a form of rugby at the club. Alongside our new 60 seater stand & our nomination in the 2023 Variety Club’s Disability Awards, this really shows how serious we are about inclusivity in the county. This is Worcester’s club!”

Matt Cowdrey from Worcester Warriors Foundation who’ll be leading the sessions commented “I am excited to assist with the launch and set up of walking rugby at Worcester RFC, having seen the benefits of walking rugby at our other clubs across Worcestershire for those who can’t play the 15 a side game anymore. It’s a fun and inclusive form of rugby that anyone can play together no matter of their age, gender or rugby playing experience.”

And Richard Udall - Worcestershire County Councillor for St John’s who has helped support this initiative saidI’ve been looking forward to walking rugby starting in Worcester. As a former player, whos now totally unfit, I welcome this as an opportunity to get back into the sport I love & start playing again. It’s not just about physical activity, its about having fun & enjoying team sport againFor too many people of my age, the last time they played was at school, so this is an opportunity to bring the fun back!
