Match Report 17/08/2024

Worcester Mixed Abilty Men capped off a good training block with a much-improved performance in the narrowest of defeats against a physical Newport All-Stars side who stepped in late when Swansea Gladiators were unable to fulfill the fixture.

Powerhouse number 8 Mark Jolley opened the scoring with a trademark powerful carry and was a major presence at the breakdown throughout the game. Man of the match however was Aidan Cartwright, with a relentless energetic display that has become his trademark.

The decisive moment came late in the first period, when an under-resourced ruck defence allowed a successful snipe by one of Newport’s many powerful carriers. Otherwise it was the closest game with 3 tries apiece and a final score of 19-21.

With many positives to take from the game. We look forward to going one better, when we welcome Melksham to Westons in 3 weeks time, as the season proper gets underway.
